my name is rachel i've been hammering steel since march 25 2005. In my art, I am concerned with individuals' knowledge, needs, and desires; with why we live in the current political and social situation and why so few question it. As I see it, this country is suffocating culturally and intellectually. In this fundamentalist, fearful, post-industrial, post-dot-com, post-9-11, post-post-post modern world. As the art world, and especially as my generation of emerging artists, we need to foster a situation where we make art that encourages people to reevaluate their intentions and motivations. In response to this concern I make mostly interactive pieces using talons and cavities to represent information, the mind, and their interplay. I use head shaped and organic forms to explore different ways people process information; how it is received, used, and disseminated.
